Dear
Unit Representative(s),
On
behalf of the planning committee, we
hope to see you and your unit at the 13th Annual Living
History and
Reenactment of the Action at Wilson's Wharf on May 22-23, 2010.
Also
known as Ft. Pocahontas, this forgotten
fort will be recreated once again through your support marking the 13th
year of
reenacting this historic event that took place on May 24, 1864.
Registration is open to
all Union and
Confederate military impressions, especially those portraying U.S.
Colored
Troops. The presence of the USCTs is
particularly important to the history of the site and therefore, the
registration
fees are waived for members of the USCT units. This
year’s event will feature St. Mary’s
Church, also known as Samaria Church, and The Action at Wilson’s
Wharf and
reenactments will take place both days at 1 p.m. Please
make every effort to represent your
unit on both days to provide the best event possible. The cavalry will
continue
to play an important role to the event and advance registration is
required so
we will be properly prepared for the equine reenactors.
A strong artillery
performance is
needed for both battles and the Saturday evening nightfire. Bounties
will be
offered to the first four full size guns registered for a fee of $150
per
gun. As always, sutlers are welcome and we
hope they will enjoy being close to the spectator tent and the action.
We are pleased that the 69th
Pennsylvania will lead the informal evening entertainment at camp side
after
the night fire and signal tower demonstration that will begin at dusk.
The registration form is
attached and
fees should be sent in by May 15, for the pre-registration fee of $10
per
adult. Free for children under 12 years old. After May 15,
the registration fee is $15 per person. On-site
registration will be accepted but
advance registration is strongly encouraged so we will be prepared for
your
participation. Additional information can
be found on the web site at www.fortpocahontas.org,
including schedule, rules and regulations, as well as a press release
and
flyer. Please feel free to print the flyer and distribute to
businesses,
spectators or at related events to help promote this event. Thank you
for your
help!
Questions or inquiries
about the
reenactment may be made to Event Commander, Joe Funk by email at gweitzel@prodigy.net. Questions about registration may be made to
I look forward to seeing
